I remember, when I stopped playing eve online, sooner or later my skill training stopped, yet I am back. I am back and playing. When you see my characters age, you would think, I should have lots of SPs, but that isn't the case. Yet others enjoy SPs from the time they haven't paid a cent. Is it fair? No. Now I have 3 accounts.
CCP has 3 main choices:
Add the missing SP to accounts like my accounts. Sadly lots of people would sent their accounts online. Which isn't a good case. Remove ghost training. Or accept the difference.
You can guess why the first choice would be a problem. A lot of people would start an account, leave it for a year, and do skill training after.
About the 2nd and 3rd option: It is a matter of preference. Can you get any amount of hard core and experience Eve players on the long run? They enjoy having 5 or more accounts, but these accounts are subscribed for half of the time. Can you get many many new players? These people enjoy when they don't have to compete with people who can use lots of accounts, some of them are inactive, to gain advantage in RPs, Skill points, Sell orders, Buy orders, etc. without spending a cent.
If you don't keep all those accounts you don't have a such huge advantage over new and casual players, and with time the gap between veterans and new players became more and more wide. They had a chance to decide: Stop ghost training to reduce the gap, or use another trick to make this difference less important, or try to wait.
Running Eve Online isn't cheaper than running any other game, but so far, it was far cheaper for us, players. If CCP has to raise the price, for many reasons, and need to focus on getting new players in the game, I can understand and accept that.
BUT, in all honesty, the question is: a lot of people will see their game is "ruined" by this, and some advantages of the game is vanished thanks to it. I think if long term subscription plans, ability to use mobile devices, web, etc. for skill changing, market use, etc would be introduced, and the rate of skill training would get increased the game would be better.
I would suggest 1.5 times multiplier for skill training speed, a possible system for skill changes usable from mobile devices, and an ability to place orders, use industry from mobile devices as compensation.
